Y Explorations Selected by Hitachi to Support SuperH RISC Processor
LAKE FOREST, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2001--
Y Explorations Inc. (YXI) announced today that Hitachi Ltd.
(NYSE:HIT) has selected YXI's eXplorations Compiler® (XC) as the
design element of choice for automating the integration of
intellectual property (IP) devices to Hitachi's SuperH(TM) RISC
processor products.
In cooperation with YXI, Hitachi has created a parameterizable
communication library that supports a wide range of bus protocol
configurations for the SuperH processor. The library allows
system-on-a-chip (SoC) and embedded system designers to configure and
optimize the SuperH based architectures for the intended application.
The XC's interface synthesis and behavioral synthesis software
will automatically generate the ``glue logic'' required to integrate
peripheral devices and IPs with the processor bus. This not only
accelerates the development of the SuperH SoC, but also establishes a
software development platform long before the final SoC ASIC is
available.
``Y Explorations' XC provides our highly configurable SuperH buses
with an environment for integrating IPs and devices,'' said Yahiro
Shiotsuki, manager, IP development department, Design Technology
Development Division, Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits, Hitachi,
Ltd.
``This reduces embedded processor system development into a simple
`plug and play' operation. By combining the XC with Hitachi's
communication libraries our customers will be able to speed up their
development of advanced consumer electronic products by shortening the
path to final implementation. This technology is a cooperative effort
between YXI and Hitachi.''
According to Y Explorations CEO Viraphol Chaiyakul: ``Hitachi's
SuperH processor is extensively used in the industry because it
supports a wide variety of bus protocols and bus data widths. The
SuperH processor presented some unique challenges concerning how to
support all its many applications in each of its protocol
configurations.
``Hitachi sought to resolve this issue through collaboration with
YXI to create a SuperH processor development system that can be used
to automate the selection and integration of the processor bus cores
into the peripheral devices.''
``Collaboration between YXI and Hitachi has resulted in the removal
of one of the major bottlenecks in embedded system design, the
integration of hardware and software,'' explained Chaiyakul.
``Automating the integration of the processor bus with the peripheral
elements considerably simplifies the hardware design task and allows
for early software development. Hitachi is revolutionizing the
embedded systems development process.''
The eXplorations Compiler is a combined interface and behavioral
synthesis tool used to automate interface generation, design and IP
reuse, and architectural exploration for SoC and embedded system
design.
The XC allows designers to automatically synthesize a functional
RTL or behavioral level description of their ASIC or SoC device,
written in VHDL, Verilog or C, into a synthesizable RTL description
with components and bus protocols from IP and communication libraries.
The XC eliminates the time consuming manual process of translating
algorithms or block diagrams into a synthesized RTL model and provides
an automated approach to design reuses and interface generation. The
output of XC is VHDL or Verilog RTL that can be easily simulated and
synthesized by standard verification and logic synthesis tools.
Y Explorations is a pioneer in the field of electronic design
automation software that enables the rapid and effective design of
embedded systems and reuse of complex semiconductors. YXI's products
are used by designers of integrated circuits including system-on-a-
chip, for next-generation telecommunication and networking systems and
devices, as well as portable electronic products such as cell phones,
computers and printers.
YXI's behavioral and interface synthesis software allows a
seamless design flow between design specification and today's hardware
design flow. YXI has headquarters in Lake Forest. The company's Web
address is http://www.yxi.com.
